Sky Sports pundit pundits Leeds United v Sheffield United
Sky Sports pundit Lewis Jones predicts Leeds United to win 2-0 in the Yorkshire derby when Sheffield United visit Elland Road on Saturday.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side has been in mixed form as of late, winning two of their last seven Premier League matches.
They did, however, enter the international break on a high by drawing with high-flying Chelsea and then beating Fulham at Craven Cottage to break their London curse.
Sheffield United, on the other hand, have lost all but one of their last seven Premier League matches and have scored just once in their last five.
Sky Sports’ betting expert Jones expects an easy win for Leeds in the Yorkshire derby this weekend and has highlighted winger Raphinha as the key man ahead of the game.
“Sheffield United have gone from likeable losers to an embarrassment in a matter of weeks,” Jones wrote on the Sky Sports website.
“Their adventure through the leagues with Chris Wilder at the helm is ending in calamitous and sad fashion. No goals in their last eight games is the definition of toothless and sums up their current plight. Leeds shouldn’t have too much to fear if bringing their usual intensity and relentless pace to the table.”
He added: “[Raphinha] is fast becoming the bargain of the season at just £17m.
“We’re seeing a side to him over recent performances that make him more than just a nutmeg and stepovers merchant. There is genuine quality in his boots and unlike most maverick-type players, he consistently comes to the party at big moments in matches and has substance to back up the style.
“Only eight players in the Premier League have scored more goals than him (5) since Boxing Day and he ranks 10th on the list during that period for most shots at goal from a player (33). In a match Leeds are expected to dominate with their superior quality, Raphinha should see plenty of opportunities to make his mark.”
We don’t want to sound complacent but this should be a straightforward win for Leeds.
As Jones said, Sheffield United have been wretched as of late and their decision to sack Chris Wilder has left them in even more of a lurch.
No Leeds fan needs reminding of Paul Heckingbottom and how useless he was in charge at Elland Road. He was out of his depth midway up the Championship – let alone in a Premier League relegation fight.
Sheffield United are down and out now – the only thing keeping them up right now is that it’s still mathematically possible for them to do it. But, in truth, everyone at Bramall Lane knows they’ll be back in the Championship next season.
That could be dangerous going into this game as they have nothing to lose.
But, then again, Leeds have nothing to lose either. We’re happily in mid-table with very little chance of being relegated or getting into Europe.
We might as well just go for it and try to embarrass the Blades as much as possible on their way back down to the Championship.
In other Leeds United news, this Whites target could cost the club just £1million even though he has huge potential.
