Sky Sports pundit predicts Leeds United v Sheff Utd outcome – ‘this will blow your socks off’

David Prutton has predicted a 2-2 draw as Leeds United welcome Sheffield United to Elland Road on Friday (18 October).

The Blades are currently sitting in second place, unbeaten after nine Championship matches while Daniel Farke’s side are just three points behind, occupying fifth spot with just one defeat.

Leeds were seconds away from claiming all three points against Sunderland before the international break, only for Illan Meslier’s howler to split the points at the Stadium of Light.

Speaking via the Sky Sports Championship Predictions podcast [17 October] Prutton said: “It’s a cracking game to get the Championship back up and running.

“Plenty of time for Leeds to stew on that, plenty of time for Sheffield United to focus on their unbeaten run. You’ve got a team who’s unbeaten and has a wonderful defensive record, and a team in Leeds who came close to going top despite Meslier’s mistake.

“This will blow your socks off and blow your mind. I’m going with Leeds United 2-2 Sheffield United.”

Leeds United and Sheffield United to draw in Championship clash?

Claiming all three points against the Blades would be a huge statement for the rest of the league, and Farke’s side certainly have what it takes despite several key injuries.

The Whites will be without Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev, leaving Ao Tanaka and Joe Rothwell as the likely midfield pairing, but Dan James and Manor Solomon could be available [Beren Cross via X].

Recent history would suggest Leeds will take all three points at Elland Road, having beaten the Blades home and away during the 2020/21 Premier League season.

However, the Championship is rather unpredictable, which Meslier learnt during the 2-2 draw with the Black Cats, so Farke’s side must remain water-tight at the back and take their chances in the final third.

A win would put the Whites in prime position to rise to the top of the Championship table, but it will be an incredibly tough battle against one of their main title rivals.
