Sky Sports pundit predicts if Leeds will suffer ‘Catastrophe’ in promotion bid after defeat
Sky Sports pundit Matt Murray believes that Leeds United are still in pole position to win promotion to the Premier League despite their setback at Cardiff.
Leeds resumed their Championship campaign with a disappointing 2-0 defeat in South Wales last week as West Brom took top-spot in the league with a 0-0 draw against Birmingham.
Leeds did not lose any ground on third-place as Fulham lost to Brentford but it is the Cottagers who are up next for the Whites, who welcome Scott Parker’s side to Elland Road on Saturday.
Ex-Wolves goalkeeper Murray believes that despite the setback, Leeds fans should still be optimistic about winning promotion.
“There’s no chance that Leeds are going to suffer catastrophe,” Murray told talkSPORT.
“As a football fan, you’re always nervous about your team, but right now you’ve got to stick to it.
“There are going to be twists and turns, but everyone would love to be in Leeds’ position.
“They’ll learn from last year. They are in the driving seat.”
Let’s say that Leeds lost to Fulham on Saturday – they are still four points clear of third.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side also have a very favourable set of fixtures yet to play while Fulham still have to play against the likes of Nottingham Forest, Cardiff and West Brom.
Then there is Brentford, who are eight points off Leeds and play West Brom on Friday night.
That is a massive match too and hopefully the Baggies win to keep the Bees far behind in the race for automatic promotion.
Leeds don’t need to win this game against Fulham to prove their promotion credentials but obviously it will do the world of good if they did.
We would take a draw though, as long as Brentford do not win against West Brom.
In other Leeds United news, Jay-Roy Grot is eligible to play for Leeds this season and Phil Hay has said whether or not he’ll feature.
