David Prutton has claimed that it is as good a time as ever for Leeds United to face Liverpool in their Premier League opener.
The Whites travel to Anfield in seven days as they finally end their 16-year wait for top-flight football at Elland Road.
Leeds currently have a number of players away on international duty, with preparations set to take a hit at Thorp Arch.
The Sky Sports pundit, Prutton, claimed that could work in Leeds’ advantage though, with Liverpool going through exactly the same.
“In terms of the game itself it does feel like as good a time as any to play Jurgen Klopp’s side,” he wrote for the Yorkshire Evening Post.
“I’m not saying it’s a free hit, of course, it isn’t, but every team is in the same boat with players coming back from international duty with schedules out of sync.
“I’ve no doubt Leeds players won’t need any motivation going to Liverpool – it’s where they have fought to be for a long, long time.”
Liverpool also went through a gruelling Community Shield clash with Arsenal that eventually ended in defeat, although we think Prutton is wishing here.
Jurgen Klopp will be leaving no stone unturned in Merseyside, as they look to defend their first Premier League title in 30 years.
Leeds more than often had more than a 60% chance of winning games in the Championship according to prediction expert Nate Silver, although we expect that to change next season.
The Whites are 19/2 to win at Anfield, with Liverpool the clear favourites with bookmakers, the Reds as low as 1/4 in certain places.
