Carlton Palmer believes that Leeds United may be able to agree a deal with Birmingham City to sign George Hall and then loan him back.

In his view, due to Birmingham’s financial condition, a number of clubs will be looking at the 18-year-old English midfielder.

The Whites are understood to be leading the race for him [Daily Mail] and Palmer does see this move happening in the near future.

The Sky Sports pundit told Football League World, “Birmingham are in the financial plight that they’re in and there are a lot of clubs who have been looking at him, but Leeds have been looking at him, particularly for a long time.

“And, they may be able to do a deal with Leeds where he comes back on loan and plays because, you know, like I’ve always said, for these players to develop their education is playing football.”

Interesting prospect

Hall is unlikely to break into the Leeds senior side in the next 18 months so what Palmer suggests may actually be the best move for all parties.

The Englishman would certainly want to move to a bigger club and if the Whites avoid relegation, they will have established themselves as Premier League mainstays.

He’s used to playing at Birmingham, so loaning him back would keep him and the club happy and also give them some money to help with their financial crunch.

It’s pretty clear that Leeds want to sign the teenager who has been making a name for himself over the last 12 months and beyond.

Speaking about Hall, Birmingham’s Under-18 coach Martyn Olorenshaw said in November 2021, “He is an attacking midfielder with an ability to create and score goals. He is explosive, dynamic and has the prowess to influence games.”

Leeds can certainly do with someone like him as he’ll be able to play as an eight as well as a ten and given how he’s progressing, he’ll undoubtedly make it to the Premier League in no time.

We’re hoping that Victor Orta tries to get this one over the line as soon as possible, before any other clubs try convincing the player to move elsewhere.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites could now be looking to sign an award-winning Ligue 1 ace and bring him to Elland Road in January.
