Sky Sports pundit blasts Crysencio Summerville in Leeds United clash v Preston, launches ‘payback’ accusation

Andy Hinchcliffe blasted Crysencio Summerville for a “poor” challenge he made on Jordan Storey in the Leeds United game against Preston North End on Sunday (21 January).

Speaking on co-commentary on Sky Sports Football (12:39pm), the pundit said the 22-year-old was “nowhere near the ball” as he picked up a yellow card for the foul on the Lilywhites centre-back in the clash at Elland Road.

He added that the “frustrated” Dutch winger was perhaps looking for “payback” after the defender had blocked him off earlier on in the first half of the game.

“It’s always going to be a risky challenge,” said Hinchcliffe. “You’ve got to be absolutely sure you’re going to get something on the ball if you decide to step in here. He’s nowhere near the ball, takes out the centre-half, it’s a poor challenge, deserves a yellow card.

“I just wonder if that challenge was a bit of payback for an earlier challenge when Storey blocked him off, maybe just a bit frustrated, dived in to get some payback.”

Leeds ran out 2-1 winners thanks to a dramatic late penalty from Joel Piroe, a result that leaves them four points back of second-place Southampton.

Rash

It was a pretty rash challenge from Summerville as he was never going to get the ball and a yellow card was always going to be the outcome when you take out a man like that.

Perhaps it was down to a bit of frustration following the earlier incident with Storey, but sometimes you have to rise above it and keep your head.

The winger is no stranger to a yellow card as that was his sixth booking of the season, which is relatively high for a forward player at this stage of the campaign.

Leeds United

While you don’t want to take away the edge he has from his game, maybe he could be a little smarter with his tackles because the last thing the Whites need is for him to pick up a suspension.

After his scintillating form in the Championship this season, Daniel Farke will know the importance of having him out there in each and every game as his side looks to secure promotion.

In other Leeds United news, Farke has shared the Whites’ stance on making a loan move permanent.
