Sky Sports man slams Rodrigo over 'crazy' incident in Leeds United v Brentford
Sky Sports commentator Rob Hawthorne has slammed Rodrigo after the Leeds United striker picked up a “crazy” yellow card in the draw against Brentford.
The Spaniard was booked in the 64th minute for smashing the ball into the ground in a show of frustration, which wasn’t received well by referee Peter Bankes.
Hawthorne was scathing of the 31-year-old’s petulance as he earned himself the first booking of the afternoon at Elland Road.
“He’s got himself a crazy yellow card. It’s the first booking that we’ve had and it’s a daft one, really. You can see it unfolding. He thought about kicking the ball away, he thought by just beating it into the ground he’d get away with his show of anger,” said the Sky Sports commentator (03:21pm, 22 January).
Well wasn’t that a frustrating afternoon at Elland Road? Brentford came with one objective and they performed it expertly. They restricted the Whites to next to nothing and made life extremely hard for Leeds in an attacking sense. Looking at the game objectively it was an impressive point against an in-form side.
Sadly, singular points will not suffice for the Whites at the moment. They have to be winning games, especially at home. Jesse Marsch has been given enough backing in the transfer market and he simply has to start delivering.
The Whites must find a way of breaking down stubborn defences. On Sunday (22 January) they were far too one-dimensional. If Leeds can’t work out a way of becoming a consistent force in the Premier League, questions will begin to be asked of the American.
The Yorkshire side are edging closer to the drop zone and if they aren’t careful they will be engulfed in a full-blown relegation battle.
