Sky Sports: Leeds United transfer news as full agreement done for Max Wober

Leeds United have reached a “full agreement” for the signing of Red Bull Salzburg defender Max Wober, according to Sky Sports.

Sky Sports have shared on their transfer live blog (2 January, 10:45 am) that the Whites have reached an agreement for a fee in the region of £11m.

The 24-year-old centre back, who is also capable of playing as a left-back, has 13 caps for Austria. The defender has managed 15 appearances in the Bundesliga this season and has played in the Champions League as well.

That was brilliantly done by Victor Orta and all credit should go to the club for securing the deal so quickly.

There has been a sea-change approach in transfer strategy as we saw in the summer, the club quickly identified their targets and secured their signatures at the earliest.

We are witnessing a similar strategy here again. The club realised that signing a left-back is a priority and they didn’t wait long to add a new defender.

It seems the transfer is as good as done, and the announcement is expected shortly.

The Whites badly need to sign a new left-back and a striker in January. While the left-back position is more or less sorted now, it remains to be seen if the Whites get a new forward by the end of this month.

It is interesting to note that Wober is not a natural left-back, and a similar role is currently being performed by Pascal Struijk, which makes you wonder whether the club should have signed a natural full-back.

Junior Firpo struggling with injuries yet again, and doubts remain over his long-term stay at the club. Let’s hope that Jesse Marsch can get the best out of Wober.

In other Leeds United news, the club is thrashing out terms for an early January signing after this player jetted into the UK for a move
