European giants Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and Lazio have been to watch Leeds United target Milos Kerkez so the club need to act quickly, Sky Sports reports.

The 19-year-old left-back is seen as “one of the most exciting prospects in his position in Europe” and is attracting attention from Premier League sides including Leicester and Bournemouth.

United are still looking to add another option at left-back to the squad despite signing Red Bull Salzburg captain Max Wober.

According to Sky Sports: “He is in no rush to leave AZ however, with the team chasing a Champions League spot and only four points behind Eredivisie-leaders Feyenoord.

“But his rising stardom has attracted even bigger clubs to watch him including Borussia Dortmund, Atletico Madrid and Lazio – so other clubs may have to act now to get him.

“Leeds have recently signed left-footed centre-back Max Wober from RB Salzburg, who can also play at left-back, having relied on centre-back Pascal Struijk to play in place of Junior Firpo.

“But Sky Sports News understands they are continuing to monitor Kerkez, with a desire to add a new young left-back talent to the squad.”

Time is of the essence

Not this again. Whites fans have had more than enough experience of being gazumped for transfer targets over the past year.

After Wober’s arrival it is encouraging that help in defence is still on the agenda because it has been a weakness for some time and the club can’t take chances with their Premier League status.

Battling league rivals is tricky enough but while it isn’t members of the ‘big six’ it is a fight that can be won, so if Leeds United are serious about Kerkez then they should move quickly.

If he is rated this highly then it is only a matter of time before his value and his prospects move out of the realm where the Whites can compete.

Cody Gakpo is the most high profile example of that in recent months, so it is likely a stick or twist situation already for the teenage full-back.

A specialist at the position is going to be needed sooner or later regardless of Wober coming in, as Junior Firpo’s form and fitness looks to have ruined his spell at Elland Road already, so strike now or find another option.

In other Leeds United news, a Sky Sports pundit has talked up the chances of a testing January bid for a Whites-linked goalscorer.
