Sky Sports journalist shares if Ben Godfrey to leave Everton amid Leeds United transfer speculation

Alan Myers claims that Ben Godfrey will not be leaving Everton on transfer Deadline Day amid links to Leeds United throughout the window.

The Sky Sports news editor responded to a fan asking him about the English defender’s potential move to Elland Road.

Carlton Palmer told Football League World [31 January] that the Whites had one offer for the 24-year-old rejected and were preparing another bid.

Via Twitter, Myers wrote: “He isn’t leaving Everton today.”

No longer needed

Graham Smyth reported that Burnley defender Connor Roberts is set to undergo a medical on the final day of the window.

This means that there’s no reason for them to pursue the services of Godfrey, and by the looks of it it’s not a deal that would happen anyway.

While Godfrey would have been a valuable addition to Leeds’ squad with his defensive prowess and versatility, the potential acquisition of Roberts is not a bad alternative.

Godfrey’s athleticism and ability to play across the backline could have provided depth and quality to Leeds’ defensive options.

However, Roberts brings his own strengths, notably his experience in the Championship and defensive solidity and his imminent arrival suggests that the Whites are addressing their defensive needs efficiently, ensuring they have adequate cover and competition at the back.

Hopefully, this deal ends up going through without any hindrances.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites could now move fast to sign a West Ham defender with just a few negotiation points left to iron out.
