Sky Sports journalist: Leeds table ‘final’ offer for major transfer, club wanted £27.3m

Sky Sports transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has said that talks are “progressing” between Leeds United and Bayern Munich over a deal for midfielder Michael Cuisance.

He said that personal terms had been agreed and that the £18.1m (€20m) bid from Leeds was their “final” offer.

Cuisance signed for Bayern Munich last summer for a fee of around £11m.

Romano’s update came after Bild journalist Christian Falk said that Cuisance had been given permission to leave Bayern.

In a subsequent story in the Guardian, Romano said that Bayern had initially wanted £27.3m (€30m) with add-ons, but that “it looks like the two parties will come to an agreement in the next few days.”

Cuisance the new Hernandez?

It really does look like this is going to happen now.

The only thing that can go wrong is the fee but Romano has said it looks like an agreement will be reached.

Romano has said this is Leeds’ final offer but there’s no suggestion that this is in conflict with Bayern, although this is the first we’ve heard of them wanting nearer £30m.

if they’ve given the player permission to leave, it suggests that the talks with Leeds are going well.

If Cuisance does sign it almost certainly means that Rodrigo De Paul won’t be coming to Leeds in this window.

Some fans will be disappointed about that but they should be getting excited about Cuisance instead.

Popular Leeds stats site LUFCDATA certainly is. It said that “Leeds would be acquiring a phenomenal talent.”

He’s a slightly different prospect to De Paul. Where De Paul can play anywhere across the midfield, Cuisance does most of his work down the right.

This is De Paul’s heat map from WyScout.

And this one is Cuisance’s.

He’s been employed in the Pablo Hernandez position for Bayern Munich and Leeds definitely need cover there with the Leeds playmaker injured again.

Hernandez’s game time is going to be limited this season and Cuisance is very likely to be the man to step in if he signs. And it’s looking like that’s going to happen.
