Sky Sports journalist issues fee update as Leeds United close to signing Newcastle keeper Karl Darlow

Leeds United will not be spending millions to sign Newcastle goalkeeper Karl Darlow this summer, claims Keith Downie.

According to the Sky Sports journalist, the Whites are close to agreeing a deal for the 32-year-old to permanently move to Elland Road.

While the Sun reported on 2 July that it would cost them £5million for the Englishman, that is not understood to be the case.

Via Twitter, Downie responding to claims that the deal would be in the millions, “It’s not.”

After Ethan Ampadu, he will be the second signing this summer should the deal go through.

Brilliant

By the looks of it, Leeds are securing the services of the goalkeeper for six figures and that is amazing business.

There were reports about this being a multi-million deal and while that was viewed as a bit much, it was the price to pay for a solid first-choice keeper.

It remains to be seen how much the deal eventually ends up being as there will be bonuses and add-ons included.

Leeds United

This is some good negotiating from Leeds and they should be proud of successfully bringing down Darlow’s price this summer.

Hopefully, there aren’t too many snags with this deal and it gets done sooner rather than later as they need to focus on other targets as well.

Illan Meslier could also leave the club either on loan or permanently as he’s fallen out of favour at the club.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites have agreed on personal terms to secure their next signing after Ethan Ampadu.
