Jack Clarke’s exit from Leeds has moved a step closer with the news that the 18-year-old has successfully completed his medical in north London.

That’s according to the reliable Lyall Thomas from Sky Sports. The accompanying story at 10.13am on the Sky Transfer Centre blog says that a few details still need to be ironed out, but that the deal is effectively done for a fee of £8.5m.

The fee is still the bit that seems to be unclear. Sky are maintaining the £8.5m figure while Phil Hay, formerly of the Yorkshire Evening Post and soon-to-be journalist on subscription site The Athletic, claims it is £10m upfront. That £1.5m could make a big difference to fans – and to the club.

It does seem like it’s only a matter of time until he’s gone but we should be excited by this not downbeat.

The money from Clarke can be used to start tying up incoming loan deals, with Helder Costa, Jack Harrison, Ben White and Ryan Kent all in the frame for a move to Elland Road.

Clarke out and Harrison in isn’t going to get anyone excited. Costa on the other hand…
