Sky Sports host Jeff Stelling predicts Leeds United vs Southampton result

Jeff Stelling expects it to be honours even when Leeds United travel to the south coast to face Southampton this weekend.

The Whites face the Saints in their second Premier League game of the season at St Mary’s on Saturday (13 August), looking to build off their opening victory over Wolves, but Sky Sports host Stelling has it down to finish 1-1.

Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side go into the game bottom of the table after they were thrashed 4-1 by Tottenham in their first outing, but are predicted to bounce back to get their first point on the board.

On his Super6 predictions for Sky Sports Stelling expects the home side to hold Jesse Marsch’s men and share the spoils.

Underestimated

The performance in the Wolves win wasn’t flawless by any means but there looked to be enough positives to it for there to be a good possibility that three more points can be claimed this weekend.

Southampton took the lead at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium then conceded four straight so are bound to be low on confidence.

With captain Liam Cooper likely to be back to marshal the defence it should make all the difference in terms of organisation and confidence at the back.

The attacking performance was encouraging, especially the showing from debutant Brenden Aaronson and the return to form of Patrick Bamford.

If Marsch can instil the right confidence in his players after they fought back to record a creditable win there should be enough in this side to take advantage of the Saints’ frailties.

Keeping a close eye on James Ward-Prowse and showing some more steel in defence should put them in a good position to get a second win.

In other Leeds United news, the club have suffered a dispiriting blow in the closing weeks of the transfer market.
