Sky Sports have fingers crossed over Leeds United trip to Leicester City after Daniel Farke decree

Sky Sports will have their “fingers crosses” for a “goalfest” when Leeds United head to league-leaders Leicester City on Friday night, according to Graham Smyth.

The Yorkshire Evening Post journalist wrote for the paper’s website on 2 November, the day before the clash between the two promotion chasers, that both the Foxes and the Whites can and do score plenty so the game has “highlight-chasing broadcasters slavering at the chops”.

Daniel Farke has rejected the suggestion that his side might decide to play defensively and hit Enzo Maresca’s men on the counter, saying, “No, we want to attack the games and be the protagonist. This will always be our approach, we are Leeds United.”

But with so much anticipation resting on the match-up between the runaway leaders and the third-placed side in the Championship Smyth has suggested it is bound to now turn out a let down, writing: “Roll on that 0-0”.

Box office

It is pretty hard to argue that Leicester are the best side in the league currently given they have only dropped points once so far and hold a five point lead at the top.

Despite a 14-point gap between the Foxes and Leeds United there is also an argument that, on their day, Farke’s side are the most exciting side in the division, especially when the likes of Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter are on form.

So in theory the Friday night match under the lights should be an excellent one, especially if the two managers send their sides out to attack each other.

Leeds United

It is sure to be one of the Whites’ toughest games of the season, but it shouldn’t go unnoticed that they have already been to second-placed Ipswich and won 4-3.

As Smyth suggests, it would be typical now for it to end up as a cagey stalemate, but the Leeds United games that get bogged down tend to be against teams that sit deep against them.

With Leicester flying high and playing in front of their own fans it seems unlikely that will happen this week, so chances are that the attacking riches on both sides could make this a high-scoring affair.

In other Leeds United news, there may now be surgery on the cards to keep a Whites player out even longer.
