Sky Sports commentator hopes Leeds United secure automatic promotion after Hull City win
Leeds United were the “more mature team” in beating a “superbly coached” young Hull City side at Elland Road, according to Rob Palmer.
The Sky Sports commentator, a Tigers supporter, reacted via Twitter on 1 April, after the Whites recorded a vital 3-1 victory to remain a point behind leaders Ipswich, to congratulate Daniel Farke’s side and express his hope that they are promoted back to the Premier League automatically.
A late Crysencio Summerville penalty and a stoppage-time Dan James goal from near half-way took the points on a testing evening in West Yorkshire, after Fabio Carvalho had cancelled out Sam Byram’s early opener.
Palmer wrote: “Congratulations LUFC. The more mature team won. I genuinely hope you go up automatically.
“Hull City are superbly coached, bursting with young talent and going places… but lots to learn.”
Top two still far from assured for Daniel Farke’s Leeds United
After the two dropped points at Watford on 29 March it was absolutely crucial for the Whites to get back to winning ways, and while it took them until late on they got the job done.
With injuries starting to bite at a crucial time it has forced Farke to shuffle his options and that on top of the international break has threatened to upset the momentum that had been built up previously.
It was starting to look like automatic promotion was going to be a formality and all that was left was to mathematically wrap up the title after Leicester City faltered heavily in recent weeks amid the emergence of FFP trouble.
But it is a mark of the incredible rate that is being kept up by the top three for Leeds United to still be second behind Ipswich, with the Foxes breathing down their necks while holding a game in hand.
Farke has seen his side go unbeaten since the 1-0 defeat to West Brom on 29 December, with just two draws in that time, and might reasonably expect to be some way clear on that run of form.
But a combination of the slow start to the season and the strong challenges from the two main rivals is going to ensure that one of these sides who have been excellent for the majority of this campaign is still consigned to the play offs.
