Sky pundit: Bielsa may use Spanish & South American contacts to make ‘left-field’ Leeds signing
Danny Mills has claimed that Leeds United should try to sign Teemu Pukki from Norwich in the summer transfer window.
While there is a lot of doubt surrounding what is going to happen with the currently suspended Premier League and Championship seasons, it has been on the cards for most of the campaign that Leeds could end up replacing Norwich in the top-flight.
Leeds are top of the Championship, seven points clear of third while Norwich are bottom of the Premier League and six points away from safety.
Pukki, 29, has been a shining light for the Canaries this term, scoring 11 goals in 28 appearances.
Sky Sports pundit Mills, who previously played for Leeds, claims that the Finland international is someone the Whites should pursue but wouldn’t be surprised to see Marcelo Bielsa get out his black book to add to his squad in the summer.
“Pukki would be the obvious choice,” Mills told Football Insider.
“It is where does he go and what sort of fee would he command. Does he want to leave Norwich? He is the obvious one.
“He is a goalscorer and he has proven he can do it. A good position and the way that Leeds play…
“But Bielsa is a funny one and a canny one at times. He could bring in somebody completely left-field. He may well use his contacts in South America or Spain to bring in somebody.
“I think it would be obvious that they would have to bring somebody of quality in the centre-forward position if they get promoted.”
Based on his goalscoring record, you can see why Mills would highlight Pukki as an option for Leeds in the summer.
However the Finland international turns 30-years-old later this month and he’s only scored two goals in his last 11 league appearances.
Plus, does he really fit the mould of striker that Bielsa likes to have?
Bielsa is very picky about his strikers, who he sees as more than someone who just sticks the ball in the back of the net.
Pukki has pretty much just played that role for Norwich this term and just because Leeds might replace the Canaries in the Premier League, doesn’t mean he’s someone who Bielsa should go for just for the sake of it.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites are in pursuit of this English centre-back whose contract ends next year.
