Simon Rix shares ‘pivotal’ admission amid Leeds United promotion hopes this season
Simon Rix believes the Leeds United victory over Leicester City on Friday (3 November) was “pivotal” as they look to challenge for promotion this season.
Speaking on BBC Radio Leeds’ Don’t Go To Bed Just Yet podcast on Monday (6 November), the Kaiser Chiefs bassist said the gap between the Whites isn’t “insurmountable” after securing a 1-0 against the Foxes.
He added that Daniel Farke’s side can secure promotion back up to the Premier League if they can earn two more points a month than their promotion rivals until the end of the season, something he is confident is “highly achievable”.

“It’s not an insurmountable gap,” said Rix. “Everybody feels we can catch Ipswich, but after Friday night, Ipswich could have gone above Leicester if they won both their games in hand.
“It feels like there is such a long way to go. We will have to get two points more than them a month for the rest of the season, but then we will be above them.
“It feels highly achievable. Farke is quite ‘slowly, slowly’ and isn’t getting too worried about it at the moment. Friday was pivotal – we have shown we can beat them and it wasn’t that difficult.”
Keep pushing
The main thing for Leeds right now is that they focus on their own results and performances as they look to try and claw back some points on Leicester and Ipswich.
The Whites can’t do too much to actively impact their promotion rivals’ results, other than beating them when they play each other and that is exactly what they’ve done so far this season.
Farke’s side have shown that they can not only compete, but they are actually better than those teams on their day after recording victories away from home against both of them.

The most important thing now will be remaining consistent and picking up points against the sides below them over the course of the next months.
The West Yorkshire club are going to have to put a long run of victories together if they are to push themselves into the conversation for automatic promotion, but with some of their results and the squad depth, they will feel as though they are more than capable of achieving that.
