Simon Rix drops ‘Terrible’ Patrick Bamford verdict in Blackburn v Leeds United

Simon Rix believes Patrick Bamford had a “fairly terrible” game for Leeds United in their 1-0 Championship defeat against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.

The Whites dropped down to third place in the second tier thanks to their poor showing and now have a three-point gap to make up if they want to get back to the top.

Speaking on the Don’t Go To Bed Just Yet Podcast (2 December), Rix shared his thoughts on the performance of Leeds’ talisman.

“The three subs [Leeds made] was the point where we sort of completely conceded it,” he said.

“[Largie] Ramazani was alright I think, [Patrick] Bamford I thought was Bamford, fairly terrible, and I thought we got worse and they seemed to get more chances after that.”

Leeds United need to find a way to get Patrick Bamford back to his best

Due to the many injuries that Bamford has suffered over the last couple of seasons as a Leeds player, his form has been hindered massively.

While the club may have multiple options for players who can be used in the number nine role such as Joel Piroe, Mateo Joseph and Joe Gelhardt, it still feels like Daniel Farke still doesn’t quite have the calibre of player he needs.

Bamford has been a key cog in Leeds’ system since the Marcelo Bielsa days and while it’s undeniable that the best form of his career was while the Argentinian was in the hot seat, it still feels like there’s a more than solid player within the Englishman that could help Leeds gain promotion this season.

If the Whites fail to go up again this season and miss out on the top two automatic promotion spots, it feels like there’s little chance of Farke keeping his job.

Only time will tell what the future holds but if Farke can get Bamford firing once again, a lot of his problems will be answered.
