Simon Jordan says he would buy Leeds United if he had the opportunity

Simon Jordan says he would buy Leeds United if he had the opportunity, and says the fans and community are the reason they’re such a big club.

Jordan was previously the owner of Crystal Palace, the club he supports, before being forced to sell owing to financial problems back in January 2010.

Now one of the biggest pundits in the game, Jordan was asked on talkSPORT’s One-2-One video which club he’d buy today if he had the choice, and his answer was definitive.

“In owning football clubs sometimes you find in towns like Leeds, or Sheffield, where the club, or even Newcastle in the Premier League of course, where the club is so fundamental to the community that whatever you want to do with that football club you’re being supported on,” he said.

“I would’ve said Leeds, categorically Leeds when they went outside of the Premier League but Leeds should be, unless they get themselves in trouble this season – which I think they’ll narrowly avoid – should be up, up and away.

“But if I was going back a year or two I’d have said Leeds all day.”

No thanks

Andrea Radrizanni is far from being the perfect owner, but he is inherently better than Jordan could ever be and we wouldn’t want him anywhere near Elland Road.

We can see from his talkSPORT show with Jim White and co that he is still very much in his own little bubble, which means all the decisions he makes have to suit him first and foremost.

Right now Leeds are in a great place. The owner is putting the club first and recruitment seems to be a regular positive, while there are no financial troubles and there are plans for the future.

But one thing Jordan said is absolutely true is that the town is absolutely infatuated with the football club and everyone wants to see it succeed and flourish.

It is the bedrock of the community and that’s why Premier League is so pivotal to the future, so survival remains the absolute key to make this year great.
