Simon Jordan adamant as Steven Gerrard to Leeds United claim made live on air

Leeds United will win the Championship title on Saturday if they beat already League One-bound Plymouth, but Daniel Farke’s future remains in question.

Legendary boss Jose Mourinho is among those to have been linked with a move to Elland Road ahead of next season after the Whites clinched promotion to the Premier League.

Leeds showed their class once again when they hammered Bristol City 4-0 on Monday, thanks to goals from Ao Tanaka, Willy Gnonto and Largie Ramazani’s brace.

But owners 49ers Enterprises remain concerned by Farke’s previous Premier League record and could seek a replacement for the German.

Gerrard doesn’t boast the credentials for Leeds job

Amid the speculation surrounding Farke’s future at Elland Road, one caller told talkSPORT (29 April, 10:22am) that he had seen Steven Gerrard linked with the Leeds job.

Leeds should win the Championship title

Simon Jordan hit back, though, and said he is adamant Gerrard is not a good choice for Leeds.

“If you’re telling me that you bring in Steven Gerrard to manage the situation, forget about it,” he said.

“In no parallel universe does Steven Gerrard merit managing Leeds United into the Premier League. He’s got no credentials.

“I don’t care what he won up in Scotland. We’ve seen Steven Gerrard in the Premier League with Aston Villa.

“But if you bring in someone that’s got proven chops in the Premier League, then that’s a different argument entirely.”

Gerrard would be a disastrous appointment for Leeds

While the links between Gerrard and the Leeds job are tenuous at best, the Liverpudlian is someone who the 49ers should not even consider appointing as the West Yorkshire club prepare for life in the Premier League.

Gerrard led Rangers to the Scottish Premiership title in 2021, while the 49ers’ takeover of the Ibrox giants is nearing its completion.

But the former Liverpool midfielder has subsequently struggled in management and was sacked by Aston Villa after a poor run in the Premier League in October 2022.

He was then sacked by Saudi Pro League club Al-Ettifaq last January, further weakening his credentials.

Leeds should retain the services of Farke in any case, as he is set to guide them to a 100-point, title-clinching haul in the Championship this season.

But there is no doubt that Gerrard would be a significant downgrade on the 48-year-old, and has not been able to prove his worth since leaving Rangers back in 2021.
