Simon Jordan drops Leeds United automatic promotion verdict on talkSPORT
Simon Jordan believes Leeds United have done their best to avoid claiming automatic promotion to the Premier League with their recent results, but warned Ipswich Town that the season is not over yet.
Kieran McKenna was named Manager of the Season at the EFL Awards on Sunday (14 April) and has helped maintain Ipswich’s title ambitions alongside Leeds and Leicester, and his side sit atop the Championship table after a 1-1 draw against Middlesbrough.
The Whites had the chance to be table-toppers but were defeated 1-0 by Blackburn Rovers at Elland Road on Saturday (13 April)
Speaking via talkSPORT on Monday (15 April), Jordan said: “They’ve (Ipswich) not achieved anything yet in terms of getting out of the division and they have to focus on the fact that there are games that Leeds have, that Leicester have that can change the picture very quickly if Ipswich don’t do their job.
“Ipswich have given themselves a wonderful opportunity. Leeds and Leicester have done their very level best to try and avoid getting promoted automatically in the last few weeks.”
Can Leeds United pip Leicester City and Ipswich Town to the Championship title?
Ipswich’s story has stolen the spotlight for much of this season, which is why McKenna has more than earned the Manager of the Season award.
However, Leeds will be hoping to crush their hopes of winning the title or even grabbing promotion, with only two out of the three title contenders able to be promoted automatically.
The recent run of results at Elland Road will come as a slight worry to the Leeds fanbase, with three consecutive matches without a victory – a 2-1 loss to Coventry City, 0-0 draw against Sunderland and 1-0 loss to Blackburn.

Daniel Farke will need to draw on every piece of previous experience if Leeds are to gain automatic promotion to the Premier League this season, rather than be dragged into the playoffs.
The German has been in this situation before with Norwich City, having guided the Canaries to the promotion from the second tier twice during his reign at Carrow Road.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites need this forward to start scoring soon if they are to earn promotion.
