Simon Jordan destroys Millwall after Leeds brag reveal live on talkSPORT
Leeds United are having a terrific Championship campaign under the management of Daniel Farke this season, but haven’t had it all their own way.
The Whites find themselves sitting five points clear at the top of the table after a 4-0 victory against Watford on Tuesday extended their lead.
However, there was a rare moment of disappointment for supporters on Saturday when the West Yorkshire outfit were knocked out of the FA Cup after a 2-0 defeat against Millwall.
Simon Jordan makes Leeds United brag
Given that Farke made 10 changes to his Leeds side to face Millwall, it seems quite clear that the manager’s priorities lie with promotion to the Premier League this season.
However, while the Whites may not have been putting all their hopes into the cup this term, there is no doubt that losing to Millwall of all sides was always going to be a sore point for the Whites.
Nevertheless, the West Yorkshire outfit will still feel as though they are the side definitely on top as their recent opponents find themselves sitting 14th in the Championship.
Speaking on talkSPORT (11 February), Simon Jordan echoed that point with a dig of his own at the Londoners: “One of my best friends owned Millwall, Theo Paphitis and I was actually with him on Saturday playing padel and he was bragging about Millwall beating Leeds, albeit he’s a Manchester United fan, but he was bragging.
“Someone said well you two were owners of football clubs, you two should know better. I said, it’s not two football clubs, it’s one and a half. Millwall’s half a club.”
Leeds United have sights set on Premier League
Returning to league action with a 4-0 thrashing of Watford at Vicarage Road suggests that Farke was right when he decided to sacrifice the FA Cup this term and instead, put his efforts into promotion.
Going up to the top flight is the only aim at Elland Road this season and with this in mind, there is no need for the West Yorkshire outfit to add to their already hectic playing schedule for a cup run.
Of course, Millwall would have been delighted with the win at Elland Road and will now look ahead to a tie against Crystal Palace, a juicy rivalry.
There is still plenty of football to be played so Leeds can’t get too comfortable just yet. However, they can continue to build upon the momentum they are building and keep a distance between themselves and Sheffield United who sit second in the table.
If the Whites can get themselves back to the Premier League, that will no doubt give them the long-term bragging rights over their rivals from London.
