Simon Grayson makes ‘massive’ Ao Tanaka claim after Leeds United win v Derby
Simon Grayson was impressed with Ao Tanaka once again as Leeds United secured a 2-0 win over Derby County on Saturday.
The Whites moved to the summit of the Championship as a result of their win at Elland Road on 7 December.
Several players stood out for Leeds, with Max Wober on the scoresheet, but Grayson was full of praise for Tanaka as he labelled him a “massive influence.”
Speaking on LUTV, as quoted by Leeds United News [8 December], Sky Sports pundit Grayson said: “So impressed with Tanaka again. Since he’s come to the club, he’s looked like a top, top player.
“He keeps it simple, keeps it moving. He fills in the gaps, he does the side of the game that not a lot of people will feel is his key strength. Understands the game so well, and reads it so well. A massive influence.”
Ao Tanaka has been a revelation for Leeds United
Very seldom can a team in the Championship pull off a major coup but Leeds certainly have with Tanaka, who has been exceptional each week since joining the club.
Alongside several others, the Japanese international has been a key component under Daniel Farke and is a big reason why they occupy the top spot in the Championship, albeit that could be lost if Sheffield United avoid defeat on 8 December.
His high level of consistent performance will undoubtedly attract interest from the Premier League. but his importance to the side must be used as a deterrent from any potential January sale regardless of the price.

Simply put, losing him would significantly weaken any promotion chances and Leeds must have that in mind.
January may pose a threat to some of the Whites’ key players, and retaining their services will be key to a good window but also to a successful season.
