‘Should have enough’ – Michael Owen predicts result in Leeds v Newcastle clash

One win in the last six for Leeds United has put extra focus on the game against Newcastle at Elland Road on Wednesday evening.

A win would give the club a huge boost ahead of a tricky (and mouth-watering) match against Man United on Sunday.

However, former Newcastle striker Michael Owen believes that the spoils will be shared in a 1-1 draw at Elland Road.

Writing in his regular BetVictor column Owen said, “Leeds took the lead against West Ham but came away empty-handed after a late Angelo Ogbonna header ensured the points were heading back to East London.

“It’s now 1 win in 6 matches for Marcelo Bielsa’s side with home form a big concern.

“Newcastle got there in the end against West Brom. They left it late but will be happy to get a result after a couple of chaotic weeks.

“Interestingly, the Magpies have lost only once on the road this season. That said, I don’t think there’s much between these two, and I think Leeds should have enough here to get a point.”

Leeds must get three points

We talked about the West Ham game being one that Leeds really needed to win if they wanted to finish in mid-table.

That goes double for a home game against Newcastle.

Newcastle are currently in 12th spot in the league and three points ahead of Leeds.

If we can’t beat teams like Newcastle at home then it’s going to be a long and bumpy season for Leeds.

They’re still recovering from a big Covid-19 outbreak at their training camp that saw their match against Aston Villa postponed.

They came back and beat West Brom at the weekend and are likely to be fitter and stronger for the game on Wednesday.

However, they don’t have the quality of Chelsea or even West Ham and Leeds must target three points from the game.

Leeds are odds-on with the bookies for the win at 3/4, with Newcastle 7/2 for the win and 3/1 to get Owen’s draw.

We think those prices are about right.
