Sheffield Wednesday likely punishment emerges after latest incident involving Leeds United star Illan Meslier
Sheffield Wednesday are likely to face a financial sanction from the FA after an incident involving Leeds United keeper Illan Meslier, according to The Sheffield Star.
The newspaper reported on its website on Tuesday (12 March) that the 24-year-old French keeper was targeted with objects from the stands after the Whites’ second goal in their 2-0 victory on Friday (8 March) at Hillsborough.
The Owls released a statement on Tuesday condemning missiles being thrown onto the pitch and revealed that the club are now under further investigation on the back of a similar incident that took place in their game against Plymouth Argyle on 5 March.
Sheffield Wednesday scenes unacceptable against Leeds United
It’s completely unacceptable for players to be targeted with objects being thrown onto the pitch as it could potentially cause a serious injury.
The FA takes a strict stance on this kind of behaviour and it looks almost certain that Sheffield Wednesday will now face some kind of financial punishment.
While the vast majority in the stadium did behave themselves during the game, it’s unfortunate that a few people can give a fanbase a bad name as these incidents appear to be becoming a theme.

Most people can get frustrated during games, particularly when your team are losing or have just conceded a goal, but these kinds of situations are never okay and the Owls will no doubt look to take a tough stance on the individuals involved.
The key thing for the Whites is that no one was hurt during the incident and that they managed to come away with an excellent three points on the road in their bid for promotion.
In other Leeds United news, a £20million permanent transfer has been mooted for one Whites loanee.
