Sheffield United make sales pitch to Luke Ayling after Leeds United transfer decision
Sheffield United and Middlesbrough have “both made their sales pitch” to Luke Ayling as they bid to sign the outgoing Leeds United right-back, according to Alan Nixon.
The Sun journalist reported via his Patreon page on Sunday (12 May) that Ayling, 32, is set to decide on who he’ll sign for this summer with his Leeds contract expiring at the end of next month.
Ayling signed on a half-season loan at Boro in January and it’s already been confirmed he’ll leave Elland Road this summer.
Luke Ayling to play at Yorkshire rivals in 2024/25 Championship season?
It won’t be a shock to see Ayling joining either Middlesbrough or Sheffield United.
It means that he won’t have to uproot his young family to move to the other side of the country and he’ll be able to continue playing in the Championship after an impressive loan spell at Boro.
In 19 appearances for the Teesside club, Ayling managed an amazing eight assists to help them finish the season strongly and snatch eight place in the Champoinship.
Middlesbrough and their fans will no doubt love to have the former Bristol City right-back in their squad next season but Sheffield United will surely provide stiff competition.
The Blades’ relegation from the Premier League has already been confirmed and they might be seen as one of the favourites to go back up next term.
If Ayling wants one more shot at the Premier League before he hangs up his boots, he might see Brammall Lane as a better place to go.
We’ll see but after performing so well at Boro, it would be a shame if he didn’t go there for good this summer.
