Seko Fofana Leeds United interest makes Adam Forshaw contract situation clear
Leeds United have been linked with a move for Lens midfielder Seko Fofana – and his move to Elland Road could have a huge impact on Adam Forshaw’s future.
MediaFoot report (10 January) that Fofana are looking at the 27-year-old with there being a “strong possibility” he could leave the Ligue 1 club.
With Lens looking to cash in, there’s a chance Jesse Marsch could make a move for the midfielder to add some much-needed depth to his squad. Mateusz Klich’s departure has made another midfielder a genuine option for the Ameican in the upcoming window.
However, if another midfielder does come through the door in West Yorkshire it would surely provide some more clarity over Forshaw’s uncertain future. The 31-year-old’s contract comes to a close in the summer and there has been little indication of whether he will be offered a new deal.
If Marsch looks to add Fofana or another midfielder to his ranks, it’s likely Forshaw’s time at Elland Road will also be coming to an abrupt end. Another midfielder coming through the door in January could see the board sanction a winter move for the 31-year-old before his contract expires in the summer of 2023.
It does feel like a massive changing of the guard for Leeds over the past two seasons and the departures of Klich, Forshaw and potentially Luke Ayling will ultimately signal the end of a historic era in West Yorkshire.
At present, it’s hard to see the board offering Forshaw another deal considering his lack of game time and the stage of his career he is currently at. The former Brentford man’s future is certainly one for Leeds fans to keep an eye on in the coming weeks.
