Sebastian Driussi Leeds United interest to surely leave Patrick Bamford concerned
Leeds United are reportedly tracking 25-goal MLS hotshot Sebastian Driussi – and that should be a concern for Patrick Bamford moving forward.
The 29-year-old has been out of form in the early part of the 2022/23 season, without a goal to his name to date. His season was pretty much summed up during the Whites’ dramatic late win over Liverpool, with his touch letting him down when clean through on Alisson’s goal.
The Whites have already been linked with a number of forwards in the lead-up to the January window, with the latest being 26-year-old Austin FC striker Driussi (Nico Cantor via Twitter, 9 November). The attacker has been in electric form for the MLS side scoring 25 goals in 39 games.
It’s fair to say he is in far better goalscoring form than Bamford is at the moment and it’s been suggested (Manuel Veth, 9 November), that he could cost Leeds £13.2million with his contract expiring in the summer of 2024. Jesse Marsch isn’t happy with his senior striking options at present, with Rodrigo shouldering most of the burden for Leeds at present.
The American coach must also keep an eye on some of his younger players who could well be in with a shout of making an impact in the first eleven. Sonny Perkins caught the eye in Leeds’ 1-0 League Cup defeat to Wolves, with some clever touches and chances created in and around the box.
The 18-year-old is a similar build to Bamford and could well be an option for Marsch to utilise at some point in the season. Leeds have also been linked with Blackburn striker Ben Brereton Diaz, who looks set to leave Ewood Park at the end of the season (90min, 8 November).
