Scott Minto: Leeds United fans should worry with two key men set to depart
Scott Minto believes Leeds United fans should be worried heading into the 2022/23 Premier League season, despite their influx of new signings.
The Guardian’s Fabrizio Romano reported on Sunday 26 June that Leeds and Manchester City have paperwork ready to complete the transfer of Kalvin Phillips.
Furthermore, The Athletic reported on 25 June that Arsenal are set to intensify their pursuit of Brazilian winger Raphinha.
These potential high-profile departures have lead Minto to raise concern over Leeds’ upcoming Premier League season.
Talking on talkSPORT on Saturday 25 June, Minto said: “They just about stayed up Leeds and if they let Kalvin Phillips go then they must get good money for him.
“£100million between the two on the face of it is good money.
“We’re talking about a team that survived on the very last day with those two players in the team.”
He added: “So if you’re now going to get rid of your two best players Leeds are now massively depleted so what they do with that money is absolutely crucial.
“At this moment in time if I were a Leeds fan I’d worry.”
What more can Leeds do?
Has Minto completely forgotten that Leeds have already made three permanent signings this summer and have numerous deals that could potentially be in the pipeline.
The club hierarchy have been working tirelessly to ensure that Leeds are ready to compete in the Premier League next season and avoid flirting with the relegation zone.
Marsch has begun to make Leeds are far more well-rounded side and who’s to say that the additions they’ve already made won’t make a huge impact at Elland Road this season.
If Minto is worried about Leeds then he must be severely concerned about Everton considering they’re lacking well behind the Whites in terms of recruitment.
If Leeds receive £100million for the pair then there should be every confidence that the Whites will be able to reinvest into their squad in the right manner.
Phillips and Raphinha have been great servants over the years but is time for both players to push themselves at a higher level.
A Footballer’s career is short and the pair must test themselves amongst Europe’s best clubs.
In other Leeds United news, Stan Collymore has told Liverpool to sign this Elland Road ace.
