Scott Minto: Leeds United can be shocking one day and brilliant the next

Leeds United can be shocking one day and brilliant the next according to talkSPORT pundit Scott Minto ahead of the Whites’ Premier League clash with Nottingham Forest.

Jesse Marsch’s side head into the game off the back of three Premier League games without a win and a damaging 5-2 away defeat to Brentford.

Minto has suggested that it will be an open game on Monday evening (12 August) and feels that you never know what you are going to get with Leeds.

Talking on the talkSPORT Gameday Podcast [29:10, 8 September], Minto said: “I think it will be really open, and you look at Leeds they try and press with a really high-intensity game, but their defence isn’t great at the moment.

“Conceding five goals against Brentford was really poor, but I like Leeds though because they’ll be shocking one day and then excellent the next.

“I like Jesse Marsch and I like what he’s trying to do. I don’t see them as relegation candidates but Leeds fans will take top of the bottom half.”

To be expected

For most Leeds United fans, inconsistency was to be expected in the opening weeks and months of the 2022/23 season with a plethora of new signings coming through the door at Elland Road.

In their last outing against Brentford, it was somewhat of a reality check for Marsch and his squad, but defeats against Bees and Brighton are to be expected somewhat.

The West Londoners have been together for a long time under Thomas Frank and despite only featuring in their second Premier League season, they have a very settled squad compared to Leeds.

Brighton are another team that have been developing over a number of years and now have one of the best footballing structures in the Premier League.

These are the teams Leeds should thrive to be in the near future, but ultimately, the odd bad result will have to occur for the side to learn and develop.

The players have certainly shown plenty of positives in the early months of the season and over time, the erratic defensive performances will become more of an anomaly.

In other Leeds United news, another Champions League star has been named as a “great fit for Leeds” after the club previously held talks.
