Sam Greenwood sends five-word message as Leeds United transfer sealed

Sam Greenwood has sent a five-word message to Alfie McCalmont after his Leeds United exit was confirmed on Tuesday (27 June).

The latter has joined League One side Carlisle United for an undisclosed fee, as confirmed by the official Leeds website.

McCalmont spent the second half of last season on loan at the club, helping them gain promotion to League One via the playoffs.

McCalmont shared a farewell message to Leeds on Instagram, with his former teammate Greenwood sending him the message: “All the best my mate.”

Emotional goodbye

It will be an emotional time for McCalmont, who was with the Whites from a very young age having come through the youth academy.

But it seems that opportunities were going to be very hard to come by in the near future at Elland Road, even with the club playing in the Championship next season.

The midfielder leaves the West Yorkshire outfit with two senior appearances to his name, having been sent out on loan to the likes of Carlisle, Morecambe and Oldham Athletic.

Carlisle clearly liked the 23-year-old a lot, taking no time at all to make his move permanent after his 19 appearances for the club last time out.

He scored two times for the side last season and played a key role as they secured a return to League One after a nine-year absence.

His friend Greenwood meanwhile remains at Leeds and could play a crucial role as they look to gain promotion to the Premier League next season.
