Sam Greenwood likely to be in contract talks with Leeds United

Sam Greenwood is likely to be in contract extension talks with Leeds United already, according to Graham Smyth.

The Yorkshire Evening Post journalist, in his Q&A session, answered questions about the happenings in and around Elland Road.

With Greenwood and Crysencio Summerville’s deals expiring in 2024, Smyth believes that there’s a good chance both would already be ironing out details of their new contract, with Jesse Marsch an admirer of the former.

He wrote, “Crysencio Summerville is one you would think will be in talks, with his deal up next summer, and Sam Greenwood too. Summerville is due to stay put this season and be a real part of Jesse Marsch’s plans and the manager evidently rates Greenwood highly.”

Good news

After Joe Gelhardt’s extension, it’s good to see the club working to secure two of their young attackers’ futures.

Both have had breakthrough seasons in different ways and the 2021/22 campaign was noteworthy, especially for Greenwood.

In pre-season, the 20-year-old would not have thought that he not only would make the matchday squad regularly but would also be a shoo-in for a regular starting berth.

However, with the number of injuries, Marsch had to throw him into the side and it’s fair to say that he exceeded expectations playing for the first team.

Speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Jermaine Beckford waxed lyrical over Greenwood and labelled him “Incredible”.

The youngster played with the maturity one did not think was possible for someone so inexperienced but he has really grown as a player over the nine games he played this past season and we cannot wait to see more of him in 2022/23.

In other Leeds United news, the club have now opened talks with an ‘Incredible’ title-winning central midfielder to replace Kalvin Phillips.
