Sam Byram new contract call made at Leeds United after Championship title win

Sam Byram lifted the first major title of his career this season as Leeds United won the Championship, but his future remains uncertain.

The defender has been a key squad player for the Whites in the current campaign, with his versatility coming in handy.

Byram signed at Elland Road in 2023, but his current contract expires at the end of the season, and the West Yorkshire outfit have decided whether to offer him an extension.

Daniel Fark will arguably need a strong squad in the Premier League, and it remains to be seen what the 49ers Enterprises will do next summer.

Byram will leave Leeds United next summer

Byram will likely leave the Peacocks when his contract expires in the coming weeks, according to TEAMtalk.

The news outlet reports (5 May) that the 31-year-old English defender will become a free agent at the end of his deal at Elland Road.

Junior Firpo has been the first-choice left-back at the West Yorkshire outfit this season, but Byram has provided adequate cover when called upon.

With the Whites evidently needing defensive reinforcements, it will be interesting to see who they sign in the upcoming transfer window.

Firpo contract will also expire at Elland Road

Firpo’s contract at Elland Road also expires soon, and Farke seemingly can’t lose both left-back options before returning to the Premier League.

Paraag Marathe publicly backed Farke after speculation surrounding his future, but the German manager needs the right tools to succeed in the top flight.

The 49ers must invest heavily at the West Yorkshire outfit next summer and bolster every area of the squad.

Leeds arguably need a new goalkeeper after Farke dropped Illan Meslier for Karl Darlow towards the end of the season.

The backline also needs more depth, with Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk featuring for most of the season.

Max Wober has struggled with fitness issues at Elland Road, and it would make sense for them to part ways with him in the coming months.

Ethan Ampadu can also play at centre-back, but the Wales international also has a history of suffering consistent injuries.

Jayden Bogle seems to have the right-back position on lock, with Isaac Schmidt a decent backup.

Farke will surely want a new centre-back and left-back next summer, but it remains to be seen whether the 49ers will sanction the deals.
