Sam Byram Leeds United future in jeopardy after Junior Firpo transfer twist emerges

Leeds United may now not look to sign Sam Byram permanently after news of Junior Firpo’s future has emerged in the last 24 hours.

The Dominican Republican, who’s struggled in both seasons at Elland Road with form and fitness, is one of the many players linked with an exit this summer.

However, according to Noticias de Gipuzkua on July 28, Real Betis, who were once keen on signing the 26-year-old this summer, have opted against bringing him back to Spain.

This could be viewed as a blow to Byram, 29, who’s been training at Leeds this summer and the fact that he’s playing in friendly games means that it’s almost become a trial.

Leeds fans will be familiar with their former academy prospect but the same can’t be said about manager Daniel Farke, who’s just learning about the full-back.

The English defender has been deployed at full-back and LeedsLive reported on July 28 that Firpo’s injury record could see Byram being signed permanently.

However, the chances of the 29-year-old being handed a contract at the club would increase had Firpo left the club for good.

Given his injury record, no club may want to take the punt on him and Farke may actually want someone who’s got experience of playing in big games for Barcelona to guide his side out of the Championship.

Byram does not seem to have a whole list of clubs knocking on his door this summer so this development may have come as bit of a blow for him.

In other Leeds United news, an update has emerged on the club’s pursuit to sign two centre-backs this summer with a winger now on the radar as well.
