Sam Byram delivers desperate Leeds United verdict after contract developments
Leeds United defender Sam Byram has declared that everyone at the club is “desperate” to get the team back to the Premier League this season.
The West Yorkshire outfit narrowly missed out on promotion last term after losing 1-0 to Russell Martin’s Southampton in the playoff final.
And, speaking on the Whites’ plans for next term, Byram said that although it’s disappointing to miss out on regaining Premier League status straight away, it will be used as fuel for promotion in 2024/25.
“Obviously it’s difficult. But it can go one of two ways. You can dwell on it and think what might have been, or you can use it to fuel the fire and build that hunger within,” he said to LUTV.
“Speaking on behalf of everyone, everyone in there is desperate to get back to where we belong and the hard work starts now.”
Leeds United set for Championship promotion battle once again
After gaining a total of 90 points last season, it almost feels unfair that Daniel Farke’s men are still in the second tier.
Among their ranks, the West Yorkshire outfit had the likes of Crysencio Summerville, Georginio Rutter and Archie Gray.
Leeds’ team was arguably one of the strongest in the Championship and, on paper, was one of the most expensive.
The hope in keeping players such as Summerville and Rutter for the 2023/24 season was that promotion would be achieved instantly.

Evidently, this didn’t happen and Gray was sold as a necessary evil so that the club could abide by the EFL’s PSR regulations.
This season plenty of changes have already occurred with deadwood such as Marc Roca and Diego Llorente both being shipped off.
Indeed, the fees weren’t the most extortionate but the little that the Whites have received will no doubt go to bringing in further talent to aid their promotion push this term such as Jayden Bogle [Alan Nixon, 14 July].
In other Leeds news, the Whites could look at bringing in Oliver Skipp after Glen Kamara’s exit.
