Sam Byram breaks silence on Leeds United future after Premier League promotion

Sam Byram has spoken out on his future at Leeds United after winning Premier League promotion at Elland Road.

Daniel Farke’s team won the Championship title on the final day of the regular season, with the defender starting in the dramatic 2-1 victory against Plymouth Argyle at Home Park.

Byram’s contract at Elland Road expires at the end of the campaign, and he’s likely to leave the Whites next summer.

While it remains to be seen whether the West Yorkshire outfit will offer the Englishman a new contract, the 31-year-old has broken his silence.

Leeds United new contract wanted by Byram

Byram wants to stay at Elland Road and play in the Premier League next season.

The left-back hopes that the Whites will offer him a new contract as the hierarchy are expected to hold talks regarding the future after their return to the Premier League.

Although Byram is uncertain about his future, the English defender will always remain a supporter, even if he leaves in the upcoming transfer window.

Speaking to The Athletic (9 May), the 31-year-old said: “Now we’ve achieved the final target, I’m sure they’ll speak as a team, investors, everyone, and make a plan for the future. Hopefully, I’m part of that, and, if not, I’ll watch on and always be a supporter.”

Junior Firpo exit on cards at Elland Road

Junior Firpo could also leave Elland Road in the coming weeks, leaving the West Yorkshire outfit defensively weak ahead of their return to the top flight.

The Dominican Republic international has been influential for the West Yorkshire outfit, but Byram has done well as his deputy.

With the former Norwich City ace seemingly trusted by Farke, it would make sense to keep him around for next season.

49ers Enterprises must invest in Leeds next summer and ensure the German manager has a squad capable of avoiding immediate relegation to the Championship.

Paraag Marathe has some big calls to make before the start of the upcoming campaign, and it’ll be interesting to see what happens.

It wouldn’t be the worst idea for the Whites to hand Byram a new short-term deal and maintain some depth in defence.

The American owners will arguably need to bolster several key areas, with a new goalkeeper, centre-back, midfielder and striker possibly on the agenda at Elland Road.

Byram and Firpo’s continuity will give the West Yorkshire outfit’s recruitment department fewer headaches.
