Sam Allardyce to hold talks with Leeds United over future on Thursday

Sam Allardyce is set to hold talks with Leeds United about staying on as manager for the 2023/24 season on Thursday (1 June), according to Ian Ladyman.

Allardyce took charge of the final four games of the season as the club hit the panic button to try and avoid relegation, but he failed to win a game as they fell to the Championship following three years in the top flight.

But according to the Daily Mail journalist on his personal Twitter account (31 May), talks are set for Thursday to discuss potentially staying on, although it is seen as unlikely that he will remain as boss at this stage.

“Sam Allardyce will meet with Leeds tomorrow to discuss his time at the club,” he wrote (31 May).

“Unlikely at this stage he will remain as manager.”

Expected

Prior to the month of May there wasn’t a single person on Earth who wanted Allardyce to be the manager of Leeds next season, including Big Sam himself.

The four games were seen as a hail Mary to make up for the error of bringing in Javi Gracia, and had he kept us up then there would have been a big claim for him to stay on for next season.

But after failing to keep us up, through no fault of his own mind after being given mission impossible, there’s no reason for the club to continue with this experiment.

New owners are expected to come in before the transfer window opens in two weeks time, with talks due to accelerate over the next week about a takeover, so it’s the perfect time for them to bring in their own man and move Allardyce on.

He had his final run in the limelight and it back-fired spectacularly. There’s no need for a round two or a second chance at Elland Road in the Championship.

In other Leeds news, the Whites are expected to “seriously consider” the sale of one first-team star.
