Sam Allardyce makes Dominic Calvert-Lewin England admission after Leeds United exploits

Dominic Calvert-Lewin will be hoping that his good form for Leeds United can take him to North America with England this summer.

The striker has been bang in form at Elland Road and is a main reason why the Whites have a good shot at staying in the Premier League.

Daniel Farke has used the Englishman as his number one option up top this season, with many Leeds supporters in awe of just how good he’s been despite coming to LS11 on a free transfer last summer.

Calvert-Lewin has earned deserved praise this campaign, but former Leeds boss Sam Allardyce is also of the impression that he has a chance of making Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad in a couple of months.

Eddie Gray and Sam Allardyce believe Dominic Calvert-Lewin could make England squad

Calvert-Lewin has often been used as a striking pairing with Lukas Nmecha by Farke, but with the duo having their fitness issues recently, the German head coach has had to seek solutions.

No doubt they will be back playing together again soon, as Calvert-Lewin admitted his determination to go beyond his 10-goal tally that he already has in the league.

While speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast, Allardyce was joined by Leeds legend Eddie Gray, who both answered a question about Calvert-Lewin’s chances of an England World Cup spot.

Allardyce said: “I think you just monitor him until the end of the season, and hopefully he continues to stay fit for Leeds and gets them in a decent position this year by scoring more goals.”

Eddie Gray replied: “If he keeps playing the way he’s playing and scoring goals, to me, he’s as good as any striker in the league.”

It would be one of Tuchel’s more rogue picks, but the Leeds forward could become an inevitable option if he continues his form.

What has Calvert-Lewin said about England call-up?

Leeds are in a fantastic win-win scenario as Calvert-Lewin is currently fit and is motivated to play well to get into the England squad.

Even if the 28-year-old’s form doesn’t lead him to North America this summer, his transfer market value will only continue to rise, with the possibility of the Whites also staying in the Premier League high.

When asked about the opportunity to play for England at the World Cup, the Leeds attacker did not doubt what he wanted.

Calvert-Lewin said, as quoted by Sky Sports: “It’s always the goal to play for your country and represent them at a World Cup, but my job is to do the best I can for Leeds, and that’s what I came to do. Play my best football here, and the rest will take care of itself.”

The dream is on, and everyone at Elland Road will be backing him to make it.
