Sam Allardyce could land permanent contract at Leeds United if he survives Premier League relegation

Sam Allardyce could be offered a permanent contract at Leeds United if he keeps the club in the Premier League this season, according to the Daily Mirror.

Sky Sports reporter Tim Thornton shared that Allardyce, 68, had arrived at the club’s Thorp Arch training base ready to get started in his new role on Wednesday morning (3 May).

The Whites currently only remain out of the Premier League relegation zone on goal difference with four games of the season remaining, and if the former England manager were to secure Leeds’ top-flight status, he could be offered a chance to make his stay at Elland Road permanent.

“Allardyce has agreed a short-term deal at Elland Road for the final four matches with a view to making him the club’s permanent manager should the Yorkshire club survive the drop,” the Daily Mirror wrote (3 May, back page).

One thing at a time.

Allardyce has gained a reputation on his no-nonsense approach to management, and he will surely be ready to give the Leeds squad the hairdryer treatment to reverse their fortunes.

The 68-year-old couldn’t have asked for a harder start to life in the dugout with Leeds, with a trip against Manchester City and a home tie against Newcastle awaiting on the horizon.

In regards to a permanent future at Elland Road, the club really need to take one thing at a time.

It was always likely that Allardyce would attach a permanent option in his contract, but whether the club would trigger it is another issue entirely.

The club are in deep trouble right now, and relegation is a strong possibility considering the tough run of fixtures that await in the calendar.

If Allardyce were to navigate Leeds away from danger in the coming weeks, he really would have a great chance of securing the full-time job.

As a short-term appointment this fits the bill perfectly, but beyond that it still feels like somewhat of a sideways step.

In other Leeds United news, one deal has already fallen apart thanks to Radrizzani’s latest moves.
