Salernitana on charge for Juventus transfer as Leeds United defender Leo Hjelde is main target

Leeds United defender Leo Hjelde is still the “main” defensive target of Salernitana as they go on a transfer charge, according to Corriere Dello Sport.

The newspaper has reported in its print edition [29 July, pg 21] that the Italian club are pushing on multiple angles already with a charge underway for Juventus midfielder Fabio Miretti.

The Whites are already said to have placed a £1.7million pricetag on the Norweigan, who has played frequently in pre-season under Daniel Farke.

They wrote: “The Norweigan left-hander, Leo Hjelde (19), of Leeds remains the main target for the defence.”

It has long been reported by Italian media that Hjelde is a target for Salernitana, but that has not yet produced any formal approaches or bids for the defender.

No chance?

With Junior Firpo still injured and no new left-back being signed yet, it appears highly unlikely that Leeds would sanction an exit in this area of the pitch.

It may be that initial noises from Elland Road are putting off any bids, regardless of Hjelde being a main target or just someone they admire.

Farke has made it clear that he still wants numerous new additions, so it would be silly to let more players out of the door before that happens.

Financial Fair Play can’t be something used in this case either, as it would be a very limited fee for a younger player who likely isn’t on high wages at Elland Road.

With the season only one week away, the next few days need to concentrate on incomings, then as the season goes on, we can look at who can be shown the back door.

In other Leeds United news, one journalist has told Farke to find a number 10 as his recruitment team “work on solutions” in that area
