Ryan Fraser ‘perfect’ to replace Willy Gnonto at Leeds United as Newcastle United speculation emerges
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…
Paul Robinson has backed Newcastle United outcast and rumoured transfer target Ryan Fraser to join Leeds United as a potential replacement for WIlly Gnonto.
Fraser only made eight league appearances for the Magpies last season, before being sent to train with Newcastle’s under-21s to earn his £70,000 weekly wage after his former Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe questioned his commitment to the side [Chronicle Live].
The Englishman, 29, was a standout for the Cherries after their promotion to the Premier League with his most prolific season producing seven goals and 14 assists, resulting in links with moves to Arsenal and Liverpool [talkSPORT].

Now out of favour and out of form, Robinson backs the Scottish international to revive his career with Leeds United in the Championship and prove himself a versatile asset in the wake of mass departures.
Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “I think Fraser would be a good signing for them, especially if they’re going to lose the likes of Sinisterea and Willy Gnonto, that kind of player.
“I think he just gives you a bit of defensive solidity in the midfield too. He gives you the ability to play high and wide or he can tuck into a midfield three or four. He’s got a lot of experience.
“Newcastle has probably passed him by during the time he’s been there as the club’s gone to a different level and they’re looking at a different calibre of player now.
“But for him, it’s personally his own desire if he wants to play in the Premier League, but I think for Leeds he would be a perfect fit.”
In other Leeds United news, with Illan Meslier expected to leave Elland Road this summer, the club have identified their new goalkeeper target from a recent Champions League-winning giant.
