Ruud van Nistelrooy sends hands-off warning to Leeds United in pursuit of Philipp Max
PSV Eindhoven manager Ruud Van Nistelrooy remains adamant that left-back Philipp Max will remain at the club this summer despite interest from Leeds United.
Leeds are without a left-back going into the Premier League season as Junior Firpo is recovering from an injury he sustained against Blackpool last month.
It has been reported that the Whites have tabled a £7m bid for the Germany International as Jesse Marsch believes that he is the perfect fit for his football module but Van Nistelrooy was quoted in a report by Leeds Live where he expressed optimism in keeping the 28-year-old at the club.
“There is not a hair on my head thinking about letting Max go,” he said.
“And the way he does it (performs), I am very satisfied with that.”
If there is a Premier League team that needs a defensive overhaul, it is clearly Leeds because they conceded 79 goals in the English top-flight last season, which was the second-worst defensive record in the Premier League after relegated Norwich City.
To make things worse for them, they have an important injury in their backline with Firpo likely to be unavailable for the opening Premier League gameweeks. Therefore, it is a good sign that they are after Max.
In the 2021-22 season with the Dutch club, the Germany International scored one goal and provided three assists in 25 league appearances.
Furthermore, he averaged 0.8 aerial duels, 1.8 tackles, 0.8 interceptions, and 0.7 clearances in the league last season and had a rating of 6.67, according to Whoscored.
Max would not just be a good signing for Leeds, but will also give competition to Firpo in this position once the former Barcelona man is back in full-team action.
Looks like it’s time to look elsewhere.
