Roy Keane destroys Illan Meslier after what he did in Leeds United 5-1 defeat v Crystal Palace

Roy Keane has slammed Illan Meslier for his involvement in Marc Guéhi’s opening goal during Crystal Palace’s 5-1 win over Leeds United.

The Eagles produced a fine second-half performance to brush Javi Gracia’s men aside and move up to 12th in the Premier League standings.

Keane questioned the Frenchman during Guehi’s strike and felt he could’ve done more to prevent Palace’s equaliser.

“The keeper should do better. The goalkeeper should be a little bit braver. He’s got to come out and dominate but that’s certainly not one of his strengths,” said the former Manchester United captain (Sky Sports, 14:55, 9 April).

Shock

After Leeds’ first-half performance, nobody could’ve predicted that outcome. The way the Whites capitulated during the second half was extremely concerning and Gracia now has his work cut out.

Roy Hodgson’s side produced a wonderful counterattacking display to completely blow Leeds away and this isn’t the first team the Whites have been vulnerable on the break.

Nottingham Forest tried to employ a similar tactic but were simply not up to the levels of Palace. There’s a clear blueprint to hurt Leeds and with Liverpool next up, the Spaniard must find a way to prevent a similar outcome from occurring.

As for Keane’s assessment of Meslier, the Frenchman was probably slightly unfortunate during Guehi’s opener. There were a number of bodies in between him and the ball which didn’t help his cause.

The disaster on Sunday afternoon needs to be put to bed as soon as possible, with Gracia’s side now right back in the relegation dogfight.

In other Leeds United news, the decision has been made for the club to splash the cash this summer.
