Ross Stewart to return for Southampton v Leeds United in Championship finale
Southampton star Ross Stewart is expected to return for their Championship clash with Leeds United on the final day of the season, according to Alfie House.
The Southern Daily Echo journalist reported via his personal X account on Friday (26 April), that the former Sunderland striker expected to make the bench at Elland Road on Saturday 4 May.
The 27-year-old has been unavailable since December, having picked up a long-term muscle injury, and has not made an appearance since the Saints’ 1-1 draw with Huddersfield in November.
“Ross Stewart expected to make the bench at Leeds,” House wrote.
Leeds United must be wary of Ross Stewart at Southampton
The Whites will likely be playing for Premier League promotion on the final day of the season, with Ipswich Town taking the automatic promotion spots right down to the wire.
Leeds will be well aware of Stewart’s dangers in the final third, having netted 40 goals in 81 appearances for Sunderland before making the switch to St Mary’s Stadium last summer.
The striker has only made two appearances since arriving at Southampton, though he could certainly play a significant role in Leeds’ season if he is deemed fit enough to come off the bench.
Daniel Farke and his team must make sure that they claim all three points against QPR on Friday 26 April before any of their attentions turn to Southampton, with clubs at the top slipping up several times so far.
Leeds will also be keen to rectify their defeat in the reverse leg earlier this season, with Adam Armstrong’s brace and William Smallbone’s goal outscoring Pascal Struijk in a 3-1 defeat at St Mary’s Stadium.
With the full backing of the Elland Road crowd, the Whites will be confident they can claim promotion back to the top tier of English football.
