Plymouth secured their fourth win of the season on Tuesday with Wayne Rooney alluding to his Leeds United team selection in the aftermath of the win at Home Park.

Rooney fell victim to a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Leeds on Saturday, 2 November and made five changes to his starting 11 for the encounter with Portsmouth in a decision that ended up paying off.

After tasting defeat at Elland Road, Rooney praised Leeds United and used Plymouth's lacklustre performance as ammunition to make changes ahead of their clash with Pompey.

In quotes reported by Plymouth Live (6 November) he said: "The decision on my starting line-up against Leeds only pays off if you win the next game, so I think it was the right decision I made."

Leeds United defeat at Millwall is another missed opportunity

With a defeat at the Den, Leeds have now picked up a worrying two points from their previous four away games. A lack of away form has prevented the Whites from making up any considerable ground on league leaders Sunderland.

Perhaps even more worryingly, out of their last 38 games in London, the Whites have lost on 30 occasions (Jonny Cooper on X).

While Leeds have continued to make Elland Road a fortress, their away form needs to improve if they are to be in consideration for a top two place come the end of the current campaign.

Taking Sunderland for example, the Black Cats have the best home and away form in the division while Leeds are sixth in the table for the latter.

Each game provides a different challenge in the Championship but ultimately, Leeds have dropped five points in their last two away outings and they could prove crucial as the season develops.

Their ability to pick up results at Elland Road is important but failure to do so away from home will limit their promotion hopes significantly and it has to change.
