Wayne Rooney makes Elland Road atmosphere admission ahead of Leeds United v Plymouth
Wayne Rooney has expressed that his Plymouth side need to “quieten the crowd down” when they travel to face Leeds United at Elland Road.
Plymouth, under the stewardship of Rooney, have struggled to get any form of consistency in their performances and a trip to Elland Road means things aren’t likely to get any easier.
Leeds famously have a fantastic home atmosphere and it is something that Rooney admitted in an interview before the Championship clash.
As quoted in Plymouth Arygle’s official club site, he said: “It’s a historic club, a very big club. They always create a good atmosphere for the team, but it’s on us now to go there, we have to be able to play in that atmosphere and try and quieten the crowd down.
“I think the last three games for us, we’re letting goals in too easily. It needs to be more difficult for the opposition to score against us, so it’s something we’ve focused on this week, to try to be a bit more resilient, getting into our shape quicker, getting to the ball and being more aggressive.
“It’s a big challenge for us on Saturday, but one I think we’re ready for.”
Three points will be huge for Leeds United
Three points in any game is huge, but with a five-point gap from league leaders Sunderland, Leeds can not afford to drop points like they did against Bristol City.
Daniel Farke’s side need to find consistency in their performances and results and win the games that are expected of them. Plymouth at home is certainly one of those encounters.
Ironically, one of Sunderland’s two league defeats was at the hands of Argyle, just showcasing that they can’t be taken lightly.
For a side to achieve promotion, concentration levels need to remain at 100 per cent throughout the season and arrogance can not be afforded.

As Rooney mentioned, the atmosphere at Elland Road can be electric when things are going well and Farke needs to ensure his side get off to a good start in the clash.
With a win, Leeds could close the gap to just two points but would need a favour from QPR in doing so who host Sunderland on Saturday, 2 November.
In other Leeds United news, Carlton Palmer thinks the Whites could sign Lewis O’Brien in January and then sell him in the summer if they gain Premier League promotion.
