Rodrigo picks up muscle injury ahead of Leeds United clash vs Manchester City - Phil Hay

Rene Maric has given a positive injury update for Leeds fans ahead of their clash with Manchester City after their 4-2 friendly loss to Monaco.

The Whites were handily beaten by the Ligue 1 side on Wednesday night (21 December) at Elland Road despite goals from Robin Koch and Joe Gelhardt, as several first-team players missed the game through injury or illness.

But speaking after the game to the media, assistant manager Maric admitted that he is hopeful most of the absentees will be fit to return when the Premier League resumes despite Rodrigo picking up a fresh muscle problem.

“Rene Maric speaking post-match,” Phil Hay wrote on his personal Twitter account (21 December).

“Says there’s been illness in the camp. Rodrigo was suffering from a tight muscle so wasn’t risked. He thinks most of the absentees will be ready to play Man City.

“Meslier has a chance.”

How is it that there are more injuries now when there have been no games for six weeks barring a few friendlies?

Something that the club is doing in training or in preparation for games has to be seriously wrong, because it’s not normal to have so many players unavailable for games so consistently.

Defensively we have been cursed all season with injuries as whenever someone gets fit again another player drops like a fly, while our attackers are now suffering the same problems too.

We’re set to head into the second half of the season considerably weaker when we face the best team in the league, and if we go on another downward spiral of results then a relegation battle seems highly likely.

Hopefully the prognosis that players will be available for City is correct, but they won’t be fully fit or match sharp and that means a long night at Elland Road awaits on 28 December.
