Rodrigo details whether he is happy with his role at Leeds

Rodrigo has discussed life at Elland Road and gave his thoughts on his new role at Leeds United.

The Spaniard has operated as an attacking midfielder in most of his games this season, despite playing as a striker for the majority of his career.

He came on to fulfil that role against Chelsea on Saturday before being substituted again – his reaction shows he was not happy with that.

Rodrigo was questioned about his new position and how it affects his selection chances for the Spain national squad.

He told AS, “It depends how you look at it. If what you look at is the ratio of goals per game, it can hurt me.

“But I am not the coach nor do I know his criteria when choosing.

“It can also be a plus to be able to play in various positions within the 4-3-3 of the national team.

“The important thing is to keep working, giving and doing the best I can at all times. With me things have always happened naturally.”

Displaying the right attitude

Rodrigo has endured a tough start to his Leeds career as he has been derailed by Covid and injury this season.

Despite that, he has also shown commitment whenever he has taken to the field and always tries to impress.

His reaction to being substituted against Chelsea is an example of that, as it was likely born out of frustration at failing to impact the game.

To Rodrigo’s credit, he was returning from injury on Saturday and had only played as a striker for Leeds three times prior to the weekend’s clash.

And he still set up Raphinha for a great chance to win us the match.

He needs to put this incident behind him or use it as motivation to do better.

We have one match left before the international break and Rodrigo will need to impress if he is to make the Spain squad.

After that he has nine league games left to stamp his mark on the team and to gain momentum ahead of next season.
