Robert Sanchez sends message to Leeds United defender Diego Llorente after he signs new contract
Brighton goalkeeper Robert Sanchez has sent a message to Leeds United defender Diego Llorente after he signed a new contract at the club on Friday (23 December).
Llorente has penned a three-and-a-half-year deal at the club that will keep him at Elland Road until 2026.
The Spaniard took to Instagram to share his emotions, suggesting he is “happy and excited” to have signed the new deal, despite fans having a different look on the matter.
“Happy and excited to have signed a new contract with Leeds United,” wrote Llorente.
“Now let’s get to work hard and give everything every day for this incredible club. Grateful to all the staff, players and fans who have helped me through good times and bad. We are Leeds.”
Sanchez, who is also a Spaniard, responded by saying “Felicidades hermano”, which translates as “congratulations brother”.

Faith
The Whites have shown tremendous faith in the Spaniard by handing him a new deal, and it is up to him to finally prove his worth in West Yorkshire.
Signed by Marcelo Bielsa, Llorente initially struggled heavily with injuries. However, he showed his class at times and has become an important player.
But his performances have been below par this season. He was awful in the 1-1 draw against Everton and was horrible in the 5-2 defeat against Brentford.
It appears that Jesse Marsch probably doesn’t want to break his system at the moment. He needs players like Llorente who have got loads of experience and can always be trusted.
The news really has come out of the blue. It was expected that Pascal Struijk would sign a new contract but in the case of Llorente, not everyone was convinced.
Llorente needs to raise the level of his performance in the second half of the campaign, and prove a point to everyone that the club didn’t make any mistake by extending his stay.
